Can we play with just phones?
Yes. The host can create the room, share the invitation, manage rounds and play a character on one phone. A laptop or TV is optional. Each player needs a phone with a web browser and an internet connection; no app download is required.
If you are hosting and playing, include yourself in the player count and choose “Join as a player on this phone” in the lobby. Mark yourself ready with the other players. Use the game shortcuts to reach your host controls, private role and shared clues. You also submit your own accusation before revealing the answer.
Shared clues appear on everyone’s phone, so you can read them aloud together. Keep your private role hidden until you want to read it. Never mirror your host or private role screen to a TV; use the optional public TV screen instead. Save your private recovery code in case you need to reconnect.
Getting back to your game
Hosts: Open your host account and sign in with your email or confirmed cell phone and your password. Look under “Your games” and choose “Open host controls.” Older preview rooms may need their original invitation and private recovery code.
Players: Open the host’s invitation in the browser you used to join. If your role is missing, choose “Returning to this game?” and enter your private player recovery code. Your display name alone cannot recover a role. Ask the host for the invitation if you lost the link.
Can’t sign in? Choose “Forgot password?” on the sign-in page. We send a 6-digit code by text to your confirmed cell phone, or by email; enter it and choose a new password. Accounts from before October 15, 2026 have no password yet, so do this once to set one. Check spam or junk for an emailed code.
If the room has expired or recovery still fails, contact support with a description of the problem. Do not send your private recovery code or another player’s role.
Someone can’t make it?
Before assigning roles, the host can open “Someone can’t make it?” in the game lobby. Remove absent people who already joined, then set the guided game’s player count. At least four people must play. A host who joins as a player counts toward that number.
Custom mysteries need their complete cast. The host can instead choose a different guided backup mystery for the group, without another generation charge. The invitation stays the same. The original custom story can be restored before starting, but starting the backup uses that room’s game and does not add a new custom-game credit. Existing purchase access and room deadlines still apply.
Everyone must mark ready again after a change. Once roles are assigned, the cast is fixed; these controls are no longer available.
Refunds
Unused purchases: Request a full refund within 7 days if no custom mystery has been successfully generated. For monthly memberships, this applies to the current billing period.
Technical problems: Contact us if a problem prevents you from playing. If we cannot resolve it, we’ll offer a replacement game or an appropriate refund.
Completed games: Successfully delivered and played games generally aren’t refundable for a change of mind.
Monthly cancellation
Cancel through your account before the next renewal. Access continues until the current paid period ends. Unused monthly games do not roll over.
Open your billing page, sign in to your host account, and select “Manage or cancel subscription” for your membership. If you need help, email support.
Saved game content
Expired game content becomes eligible for removal from our active database 30 days after the room expires. Cleanup runs in batches when the website is used, so removal may occur later during quiet periods.
Failed or abandoned story preparation becomes eligible for content removal after 30 days without activity. Active requests are preserved. Removed preparations stop; any available retry requires a fresh story setup.
Cleanup removes the room and its saved story content, including completed generation prompts and private recovery keys. Minimal purchase, usage and content-removal records remain. It does not delete your account, billing history, copies on your device, or provider backups and records.
For account data or closure, submit a verified account request. For other privacy requests, email support@whoinvitedthekiller.com. We may need to verify ownership before acting.
These policies do not limit any refund rights required by applicable law.
